Taupo to Turango to Okahune

At 9:00 am we are at the Waireki Thermal Pool Terraces where we enjoy the almost empty thermal pools. The hot water is coming straight out of the earth and believe me it is hot to super hot.

At 11am and at 11:45 am we both have a 1/2 hour massage. A coffee with a muffin ends our trip to the Waireki Terraces.

We continue our trip to the southern tip of Lake Taupo. Once we get to Turangi, we are told that there is snow in the forecast overnight for the Tongario National Park, all the way down to 2000 meters or possibly 1300 meters. If it would snow to 1300 meters, Highway One along the three volcanoes could be closed.

Behind those clouds are three volcanoes which attract a lot of hikers in the summer and fall, and skiers in the winter.

We continue south and it starts to rain on and off, possibly snowing on top of the volcanoes. We call it a night in the parking lot of the police department in Ohakune.
