Top 10 Campground Kauri Forest to Oakleigh to Mangawhai Heads

As soon as we get on our way, we see an art gallery with Kauri tree souvenirs. We stop and spend more than an hour admiring the gorgeous tables, bowls, and larger and smaller handcrafted wood carvings. The table tops made out of 10,000 up to 40,000 year old Kauri wood are spectacular.

If I would not have a beautiful dinning table I might have been tempted…..

We watch a movie in which they claim that thousands of years ago there was a tsunami and some of the Kauri trees were buried and left in swamps. Once they start to drain the swamp they find the buried Kauri trees.

The rest of our afternoon is spent following long detours because of road work. Now we are sitting on a campsite next to a beach but it is too windy to sit outside 🤪🤪
